Dreams do not always begin with big plans. Sometimes they start quietly through the things we watch, admire, and slowly learn to love.
I am Vrinda Nayak, born and brought up in the small towns of Mundkur and Belman near Karkala Taluk in Karnataka. My journey into the world of art and handmade creativity did not begin with formal training. It began at home.
Growing Up in a Devotional and Hardworking Environment
My childhood was shaped by a simple yet deeply meaningful atmosphere. Our home believed strongly in one principle work sincerely and leave the results to God.
This belief shaped my mindset from a young age. Life in a small town teaches you patience, humility, and the value of effort. We grew up watching our elders work hard every day without expecting instant rewards.
I completed my schooling at a government board school and later studied at Junior College in Belman. After that, I pursued my graduation at Pompei College, Aikala.
While education was important, another influence quietly shaped my life, the creative work happening around me.
How Handmade Kaushalya Arts Entered My Life
Growing up, I saw many beautiful handmade creations being made by my mother, aunt, and cousins. They worked with fabrics, crafts, and decorative pieces that added beauty to everyday life.
At that time, however, I never had the opportunity to learn these crafts through courses or training programs formally. The desire was there, but the path had not yet appeared.
That path came unexpectedly through the encouragement of a kind neighbour who was also my relative. She introduced me to the world of creative handmade work and encouraged me to explore my interest.
That small push opened a new door for me.
Marriage, Support, and the Courage to Continue
After my marriage, I moved to Hebri, another rural area known for its close-knit community and simple lifestyle.
This phase of my life became an important turning point.

I received tremendous support from my in-laws, who encouraged me to continue pursuing my creative interests. Their encouragement helped me treat my creative work not just as a hobby, but as a passion worth nurturing.
With limited access to formal training, I turned to a modern teacher, YouTube.
Through online videos and tutorials, I began learning more about traditional Indian art forms, techniques, and creative ideas. Slowly, my knowledge expanded, and my confidence grew.
The Turning Point: Creativity During the Pandemic
Like many people, the COVID-19 pandemic changed my routine and opened new possibilities.
During that time, I started experimenting with creative handmade masks. What began as a small creative activity slowly became the starting point of my artistic journey.
This period introduced me to the power of online platforms. Through social media and digital platforms, I began sharing my work with a wider audience.
Interestingly, my first customers were very close to home, my own sister-in-law and co-sister. Their encouragement and trust gave me the confidence to continue.
From those small beginnings, my creative journey started growing step by step.
Starting My Home Studio: Kaushalya Arts
Today, I run my own home-based creative studio called Kaushalya Arts in Hebri.
Alongside this, I also work as a part-time Art and Craft Teacher at ABVK School in Hebri, where I get the opportunity to share creativity with young students.
At Kaushalya Arts, I create a variety of handmade artistic products that blend traditional Indian art forms with modern utility.

Some of the creative works I specialise in include:
- Thanjavur-style fabric painting on outfits such as sarees, dresses, and kurtas.
- Hand-painted home decor items, including wall frames, trays, key holders, pillow covers, and table runners.
- Ladies’ accessories such as purses and handmade bags.
In addition to Thanjavur-style art, I also explore several traditional Indian art forms, like:
- Pattachitra painting.
- Kerala mural art.
- Madhubani art.
- Kalamkari fabric painting.

Each artwork reflects patience, tradition, and a deep love for handmade creativity.
Gratitude Behind My Journey
When people look at my work today, they may see creativity and craftsmanship. But for me, every step of this journey is filled with gratitude.
I have not received major awards or achievements yet. But what I have received is something even more valuable the support of people around me.
Everything I am today is because of God’s blessings, which came to me through:
- My supportive husband.
- My two children.
- My in-laws and parental family.
- Friends who encouraged my work.
- The people of Hebri who supported my creations.
- And the followers and customers who believed in Kaushalya Arts.
Their encouragement continues to motivate me every day.
A Journey Still Unfolding
Kaushalya Arts started with simple handmade masks during the pandemic. Today, it has grown into a creative space where traditional art forms meet everyday life.
For me, art is not just decoration. It is a way to preserve tradition, express creativity, and bring beauty into ordinary moments.
My journey reminds me that sometimes opportunities don’t come first; courage does. And when you take the first step, the path slowly reveals itself.
That is the story of Kaushalya Arts. And my journey with it has only just begun.
Stories like mine are shared on Wonder Woman Wednesday, a platform that celebrates the journeys of women from different backgrounds, professions, and stages of life who choose to start, restart, and build something meaningful.
And through HerBazaar, a curated space that highlights women-led products and creative businesses, initiatives like Kaushalya Arts find an opportunity to reach more people who appreciate handmade work and traditional art.
Because when women support women, creativity grows into community, and small beginnings turn into beautiful journeys.
