Let me share my journey from being a professional to a home maker and to a professional again!!!!
Opportunity does knock! Be prepared!!
Sometimes we think we can plan everything in life. But its not the case. Life takes an unexpected turn. Just be prepared for anything and everything. From the childhood I was always interested in extracurricular activities. Writing and reading were my hobbies. I completed post graduation in Economics with gold medal from Mumbai University. Then I started working as a Research Analyst. I could do the job only for couple of years as I got married and moved to Bangalore. I became a home maker, later a full time mother of 2 children. I was a home maker for 9 long years.
I am always asked one question, Didn’t you feel frustrated being at home and doing nothing? “My answer was “NO” because I took a break willingly for my family. And secondly it was just a comma (break) for me not a period!! When you know you would again resume your professional life soon, you would always try to keep yourself updated. That’s exactly what I did!
During this phase, I joined library. As I was always interested in management and self help books, I enhanced my knowledge by delving into management literature, finding inspiration in the books like 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, Attitude is Everything, Option B, Corporate Chanakya etc. Unknowingly I was building foundation of my professional journey as a Corporate Trainer.
One day I got to know about NLP Program from my friend. I decided to do that course and from there my journey as a trainer started. I became a Personality Development trainer and then a Business Communication Coach! I started working in one of the soft skills institutes as a trainer.
Idea of starting my own business never crossed my mind until I got a call from my friend cum ex-student asking me if I could conduct public speaking sessions for her. Few more people approached me at the same time. Online trainings were not very common that time. So, I decided to look for a place where I could start my batches. And from there the journey of entrepreneurship started.
I started my own institute of soft skills development in Pune in 2015. I faced lot of ups and downs during this journey at professional level as well as personal level to the extent that I thought of closing down institute and just look for some job. But only because of my family support I could keep going.
Having even one close person in your life that you feel can go to in any circumstances is more helpful than having 10 friends who are surface level. It’s about quality, not quantity. I was fortunate to have such people around me. Success cannot happen with individual’s contribution.
You need lot of patience and perseverance as an entrepreneur. People can support you. They can encourage you. But you need to be passionate and resilient enough to keep going.
PROFEX
At PROFEX, we design our courses keeping in mind the global demand of the smart workforce. We conduct trainings for professionals, Engineering/MBA/ Postgraduate students and home makers in English speaking skills, Communication Skills, Interview Skills and Personality Development. There are many who come from rural background. They have good technical skills but what they lack is communication skills. We work on their communication skills and language skills. We try and make their learning journey interesting by conducting lot of activities. My whole team and I see to it that the quality of training would be maintained. I incorporate new modern techniques like learning through videos, games etc. This helps fetch the desired results in less time. Confidence building is one of the most important objectives of the training programs.
Corporate Trainings
I conducted training for more than 45 companies and educational institutes till now. I trained more than 5000 people across industries in Business Communication, Leadership Skills, Decision Making, Team Building, Emotional Intelligence and Personality Development. I make tailor-made programs for the clients as every industry has specific requirements as far as different aspects of behavioral skills are concerned.
A trainer has to keep himself/herself updated technically and knowledge wise. I conducted interviews of the leaders of different companies to understand their challenges and how they tackle them. This data helped me not only in designing leadership skills course but also getting grasp of different industry challenges.
I believe continuous learning is a part of a training journey. I encountered hurdles due to lack of prior knowledge of how to build network, how to do marketing and how to make brand in the training industry. My passion for learning and a commitment to continuous learning helped me navigate through challenges.
I would like to continue creating value in the life of professionals and aspiring workforce by helping them enhance their professional skillset
What I learnt in my journey
Resilience is a choice. You choose to rise above your circumstances, no matter how difficult they are!! And you become the person who you are meant to be! Life isn’t about finding shelter in the storm. It’s about learning to dance in the rain! Never give up!!!
