Yellow Mellow Crochet: Priyanka’s Journey From Cybersecurity to Crochet

A Little About Me

I am Priyanka S P, founder of Yellow Mellow Crochet, based in Bengaluru. Before crochet became my identity, I spent over seven years working as a Cybersecurity engineer. It was a career I built with a lot of effort, but when I became a mother, I knew I didn’t want to miss a single first. Not her first smile, not her first steps, nothing. So I took a career break to enjoy motherhood fully, on my own terms.

Today, in the Wonder Woman Wednesday community, people know me more by my brand name than my own name. I am called Yellow Mellow Priyanka, and honestly, that makes me really happy.

How My Break Turned Into a Beginning

Even during my break, I never really stopped creating. I always had a soft corner for the creative field since childhood. I loved painting, drawing, and decorating things around the house. So during this phase, I explored resin art, tried my hand at shibori, and kept looking for that one skill I could truly call mine.

I found my answer watching my own mother. She used to make shawls, sweaters, and caps for my daughter using crochet yarn, and something about that just pulled me in. Once I picked up the hook and yarn, I didn’t look back. I started my Instagram page without a second thought, and that’s how Yellow Mellow Crochet came into being.

Turning Yellow Mellow Crochet Into a Business

In 2026, I decided this was no longer just something I did for fun. I wanted to build it into a real business.

Today, Yellow Mellow Crochet creates a wide range of handmade products, and here’s what I offer.

Boho Accessories and Jewellery

I make boho hair accessories and jewellery pieces, each one handcrafted with care and attention to detail.

Home and Occasion Pieces

I create flowers and bouquets, home decor items, and I also make blouses for sarees and crop tops for everyday wear.

Bulk and Corporate Gifting

I take bulk orders for return gifts during festivals or any occasion, corporate gifting, festive gifting, and souvenirs for brands.

I use only premium quality yarns and eco-friendly yarns for everything I make, because sustainability matters to me as much as the craft itself.

The Long Road Back to Myself

I won’t pretend this journey was easy. What I thought would be a short break stretched into more than five years, and honestly, a lot of that time was hard.

I faced rejection after rejection. My confidence kept dipping. There was family pressure to rejoin my old field, and I kept feeling like the technology had moved so fast that I could never catch up again. All of it demotivated me and made me question whether staying home meant giving up on myself entirely. But through it all, I held on to one clear goal: I wanted to be financially independent again, in a way that felt like mine.

What I Learned About Myself

Everything shifted the day I put up my first stall at a mom-focused event, just a month after I decided to take my craft seriously. That one step gave me a confidence I hadn’t felt in years.

I learned how to market my own products, how to actually sell them, and how to talk to customers and other women in business. I learned how to take feedback and turn it into something useful for my next launch. As a solo mom entrepreneur, I handle every part of my brand myself, and along the way I’ve realised something important: when women decide to do something, we truly can do wonders. All we need is a little push, a little belief, and support from family to come forward and start.

I have been putting up a stall almost every month since my first one. Every stall teaches me something new about running the business, whether it’s about sales, choosing the right event, understanding my customers and their mindset, building my network, pricing my products, or uplifting other women entrepreneurs along the way.

Where I Am Today

I feel genuinely grateful for how far Yellow Mellow Crochet has come. Being recognised in the Wonder Woman Wednesday community as Yellow Mellow Priyanka means the world to me.

I got the chance to sponsor my products in the Udaan 2026 gift hampers. I am now getting bulk orders from saree brands, and I recently launched our all-women Rakhi hampers, which is something close to my heart. I know there is still a long way to go, but every step so far has taught me something valuable.

I have also been supporting other women entrepreneurs whom I meet along this journey. I created a small community of women entrepreneurs called Shared Square, where members get updates about events happening in and around Bangalore so they can take part and share their creativity. Through this community, I also share my love for the Kannada language with professionals who want to learn it wholeheartedly.

My Message to Every Woman Still Waiting to Begin

If there’s one thing I want other women to take from my journey, it is this:

“Keep your foot forward and start to explore yourself. Who knows what wonder you can create. Just need one step, one push. Wonders happen. Trust the process.”
