A Phenomenon Called Woman

By Sreeja Mohandas

Among the topics trending today, ‘Women empowerment’ is certainly one that is drawing a lot of attention.

It is a ‘hot topic’ of our current times and why not?

It’s not that women were not empowered before, they were. Its just that more and more women are now stepping out of their comfort zones into spaces that are unfamiliar. More and more women from totally different strata of society, from different backgrounds, from different age groups, are experimenting with ideas and venturing into fields without worrying about the risks involved or the ‘concerned criticism’ that could be leveled at them by their families and friends.

They are fighting their inner battle, which in my personal opinion as a modern woman, is the most difficult battle of them all –
‘That constant need to maintain the balance in your family against your personal desire to do what you really would love to do.’ How many women go through this mental debate on a daily basis and how many emerge victorious?
Having said that, it is heartening to note that women today have begun to realize that it is never possible to attain that ‘utopia’ where one gets to do what one really wants to do and everyone around is happy about it. Women today have started to realize that it’s okay to do things that don’t necessarily need to be validated or even appreciated by people in their inner circles. Women have started to realize that ‘personal happiness’ is something that one doesn’t have to feel guilty about.

Women have started to accept themselves for who they are.
And that, to me, dear people, is the real WOMEN EMPOWERMENT.🙂
