I am Amrutha and I started my volunteering journey very young as my mom used to push me to help kids at govt school and help Poojari at our local temples. This is where my passion to help people started and see the smiles on the other people faces.
During my college days every Saturday and Sunday I used to be out and volunteer at various organizations. I have volunteered in more then 30-40 organizations pan India creating small change and empowering people.
My Volunteering Journey
I have worked in almost every sector from working with disabled kids, autistic kids, elder people, animal care, cancer kids and hot spice centers, HIV positive centers, juvenile homes, transgender community, sex workers education, environment to tribal and rural development.
I have raised funds for tribal kids for the school kids, teaching them good and bad touches, menstruation hygiene as these kids are too naïve to understand and it is very important to educate underprivileged kids.

Apart from this, I have been teaching girls in slum area about their safety and who are their safe circle, conducting health camps for rag pickers, supporting HIV kids for their education as their parents are infected and having major health issues.
We raised around 7lakhs during lock down for providing ration kits to transcommunity as they were left out and staying away from the cities, getting their covid test done, providing health kit for them taking about their safety and precautions etc., going to their places and distributing rations as they were starving without any money or any business as we had complete lockdown.
We celebrate Diwali with them making them feel belong one among us and training them on various job holds and getting into main stream jobs and educating them on HIV , safe sex etc. Also training sex workers and transcommunity on jewellery making, beautician course and tailoring.
I have been volunteering across different sectors and different initiatives and there are few initiatives which are my personal favorites’.

Few years back I started this initiative called “Write letters to Jawans” to send hand written letters to Kargil heroes, jawans at the border and make sure the letters reach these soldiers.
Thanking traffic police at their signals. We go with bunch of singers and musicians and sing for them in the signals and give them butter milk or fruity when they are working hard in the hot sun and showing our gratitude

We also started another initiative called “Dine and Dialogue” where we do a food donation drive for the people who live in the grave yard. We spend time with them and talk to them and eat lunch with them.

My other favourites are Christmas celebration with tribal community kits at Hakki Pikki colony at Bannerghatta, beautifying the black spot the area and cleaning them and creating beautiful art on the walls to eradicate the dump spots, health kits distribution during covid, blanket donation during winters and menstruation hygiene awareness in the slums and distribution of sanitary napkins.
Any one and everyone can make a difference through volunteering, your one hour of time can change someone’s life.
