Hi, I am Sridevi Kini, a professional makeup artist and professional saree drapist, multi-talented with lots of creativity and zeal to learn anything by just looking.
I was bought up in Chennai and settled in Mangalore. My Dad Satish Shenoy a businessman was my first guru who taught me very important life lesson not to be dependent but be independent. My mom Vasanthi Shenoy was always a very supportive and helpful woman behind my dad’s journey.
Eldest daughter among the 3 kids I was tuned to do anything and everything which paved way to make my creative journey. Completing my school with Home science, fashion designing. I completed my college with BA literature in Chennai.
99% of my creativity is self learnt just by looking at others doing it from a very young age of 10 or even before that. Drawing, dance, music,arts, mehendi, bridal makeover, saree love, traditional dressing, best out of waste, quilt making, flower veni making etc etc the list goes on.
Every woman’s journey is not a smooth ride. It is with lots of struggle, ups and downs. My creativity has made me feel free and better. I couldn’t pursue much professionally upto a long time due to the orthodox mind set at that time. Then came into my life my support and strength my best half Mr. Ganesh Kini, a businessman and a wonderful gentleman.
My creativity was on, even with all the rules and regulations around me. 14-45 years, my creative journey was only for the family and it was always free. In an era of comparison and domination, I was not so brave enough to go against any system or rules which were made for some reason. I’m not sure if it’s still needed. As I loved my tradition and values I wanted to be with it. By God’s grace and blessings of elders and most of all the support and love of husband and wonderful sons, Aditya and Abhay, I am able to make my creative journey successful.
Professional saree drapist and professional makeup artist is my recognition today. I love my work. Self saree draping is an amazing opportunity for making our traditional wear interesting for women who struggle with draping . I was inspired and motivated to start this workshop which was need of the hour. Providing guidance to women of any age who love saree but find it difficult to wear, I make it easy with tips and tricks. My creativity is never ending with lovely knowledge I have gained all through my life.
